Technical Stuff:

Q: What are the differences between 808 and Sally?

A: First of all, the parts and craftsmanship are definitely better in the Sally Drive. While they have almost identical spec, a few improvements have been made. We use a much better power filtering section to remove RF and yields quieter, safer operation. We added a true hardware bypass circuit as it is now a standard feature. And since we used polyester & polypropylene caps we had to adjust a few values to maintain overall balance.

The Sally has more depth and is more transparent, a bit brighter sounding than 808. The part that shines the most is the response you get while playing through Sally. The difference in feel is hard to explain in words but basically it feels like an real amp with very articulated response.

Q: Does higher rating caps sound flat with low voltage?

A: True to high voltage operation vs ultra low voltage operation, but our test only shows audible change when voltage drops below 2V, which will never happen in our case.

Q: Best sounding cap?

A: =no cap. Capacitors cannot “enhance” your tone, in a circuit it shapes your tone so designing a circuit with good balance is important. Bad capacitors or wrong type of capacitors in certain part of the circuit will theoretically degrade your signal, however, the actual difference takes more than just 1 bad cap to make a significant change.

Paying ridiculously overpriced components or using dirt cheap and unreliable components both don’t make sense so we choose to use industrial standard.

Q: Why not use all boutique caps in your build?

A: We tested 2 units, one filled with absolute best parts available and one using standard parts and all other factors are the same. The "tonal quality" difference is inaudible, only one is slightly brighter voiced and one is darker voiced due to different chemical property, which can be balanced by changing a few values. If we cannot pass the blind test and don’t have scientific evidences that prove boutique parts are superior in tone then there is no point to create the hype and make people pay more. In short, a flagship model will cost a lot to make a little difference.

In terms of tonal outcome, the value matters much more than material or hype, so we preferred to use standard parts that are always available and reliable so we can ensure every customer gets the same satisfying result.

Other FAQ:

Q: Any customer review?

A: Yes, we do get a lot of positive feedback as well as improvement suggestions, however, a review like "I prefer Sally Drive over my good old xxxxx which I've been using for years" doesn't make a good reference at all.

We all different rig, different taste, style, skill so we believe it's best that we provide as much detail as possible, both pros and cons, then let you be the judge. In the near future there will be more demos and reviews on YouTube and forums perhaps you can find users with similar rig you have to get more accurate reference. If we choose the best reviews and post them here, it is strongly biased.
